As you know Glenn owns an S64 BMW M Coupe. This is his first time driving the BMW M Roadster. Special t BMW S54 Engine Reliability. From a reliability perspective, the S54 engine might be the most reliable and least problematic M-series engine ever produced. Obviously, as these engines age, there is going to be a fair share of maintenance and replacement associated – but the majority of this will simply be common wear and tear maintenance.

The BMW M54 is a naturally aspirated straight-6 petrol engine produced from 2000 to 2006. It was released in the E53 X5 and is the replacement for the M52 engine. The S54 is the equivalent high performance engine, used in the E46 M3, the Z3 M Coupé/Roadster and the E85/E86 Z4 M. The M Coupe and M Roadster are powered by the BMW S54 straight-six engine from the E46 M3. The engine has fly-by-wire throttle and double VANOS (variable valve timing). In most countries, the engine is rated at 252 kW (338 hp) at 7,900 rpm and 365 N⋅m (269 lb⋅ft) at 4,900 rpm- the same outputs as in the M3. This 2002 BMW M Roadster is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic over black Nappa leather. Now showing 24k miles, the car was first delivered to Hart BMW of Rogers, Arkansas and spent time in Missouri prior to its acquisition by the seller in a June 2020 Bring a Trailer auction.
